The "wooden Box", as you call it, is needed to fit 16,5cm speakers in the doors of the del Sol. The original ones have a diameter of 13cm and less depth than most of the aftermarket speakers, without the wooden adapter the speaker could interfere with opened windows.
Are these pictures you posted your new speakers or the ones from the previous owner?

The radio is connected to the battery via two cables, one has 12V constantly so that your radio remembers its settings like: radio stations, eq, etc. - The other one delivers 12V only when the ignition is turned on, acting as an "on / off" switch for your radio. Most of the time, when there's an error like you described, those two cables are switched. This results in a constant 12V on the "on / off" switch of the radio, resulting in an always on state of your headunit. I don't remember the colours of those cables exactly... I think it was yellow and orange. Dunno which was which though

Maybe somebody else can help with this issue.
